ANTIBIOTICS

Alright guys! previous lecture was all about classification of drugs, more specifically on the basis of their therapeutic uses.Their are a lot of other ways to classify the drugs but we wanna keep it simple.
Better have a look on previous lecture. LECTURE-1
We'll discuss antibiotics today.
Antibiotics also called antimicrobial are mainly used against bacteria but few are also effective against protozoa and fungi but not against viruses.some are even toxic to humans and animals.

Following are the classes of antibiotics (based on chemical structure).
  1. Penicillin
  2. Macrolides
  3. Cephalosporins
  4. Aminoglycosides
  5. Tetracyclines
  6. Fluoroquinolones
  7. Amphenicols
  8. Lincosamides
  9. Sulphonamides
Mnemonic: PM-CAT-FALS

All these antibiotics are available in the following forms in the market as discussed earlier in 1st lecture.
  • Injectables
  • Sprays
  • Intramammary tubes
  • Intramammary injectables
  • Intrauterine pessaries
